How much extra watts are available?
Does anyone have an accurate figure on how many extra watts are available on the 2006/2007 & 2009 models for accessories like heated gear, GPS power, etc?
Thanks,
Mark

This isn't that accurate but on our 09 klx250s it ran two 55 watt halogen lights, no problems like drained battery/slow starting. Tremor? is the experienced one to ask. Doing a 'Search' might show some results

According to Baja Designs, the 250/300 puts out 90 watts. They can rewind your stator for 130. If you put on a LED tail lite (or swap something else w/ LED) that will 'free up' a bit of extra juice. I know that doesn't answer your specific question for extra available, but thought that info might be useful.

You have around 60-70W of headroom for accessories (like heated gear). I would stay away from the power robbing stuff like Aero Stich, Gerbings and the like. The tour Master synergy vest is a good candidate though.
In most cases, you can either run a heated vest OR grips/gloves, but running both at the same time will slowly discharge your batt. It's a good idea to put a voltmeter on the bike to monitor batt state. I have a dual RPM/VOLT gauge permanently mounted.

Tremor is about right with the 60-70 watts headroom on the stock setup....ie put in a 100 watt headlight and you still have 20 watts or so to play with.
Put a led taillight on and eliminate the blinkers and you get just that much more .... plenty for a warm weather rider for all kinds of toys and chargers if you desire. But I bet heated vests and grips and such really suck some of the juice thou.

Tom and Cousin Larry, those are reasonable loads. It's no suprise the bike will handle that.
A GPS and cell phone charger are TINY loads.
The Widder vest plus GPS is very doable as well, but it should be monitored. Especially in stop go traffic with the fan cycling on and off. You've got the capacity to handle that, but there's not very much wiggle room.
I'm talking about a heated vest plus grips with normally draw about 80W when both are on at the same time.
