How low can you go...
Air pressure wise without running rimlocks? I'm installing a set of tw301/302s next weeekend and, if I was going to run rimlocks, that would be a good time to install them. The problem is I put a lot of miles on the tarmac and don't want to mess with trying to balance the rimlock with weights or a second rimlock. I know there are a few folks here that don't use rimlocks, how low do you run your tires off-road?

I don't have rim locks...I havn't played with the psi much, but I got probably near 20 psi in them. That's too much for dirt, but like I say, havn't really bothered with it. And I don't wanna bend a rim with low pressure. There are lots of rocks around here, especially nice jagged ones....

I personaly wouldn't go under the recomended psi with no locks. I am currently running a second rim lock (180 degrees from each other) and experiance no vibration up to 70mph. I don't really push it much faster than that on the street but I don't think it would vibrate over 70 either. I would say if you are worried about offroad psi than I would be adding 2 locks per wheel and the peace of mind about not ripping out a valve stem with low psi.

Fire, I ride a lot of sugar sand with no locks for the same reason.....17 psi seems to work good. I've done 15 without ripping a stem but I don't do it anymore.....at 15 I ripped my front stem...but I had to do a stoppie in the sand to avoid a dropoff.

lcpl0331 - and thats with no rim locks?
I thought I remener some saying that if you keep it above 16 you fine. My riding style off roadis "spirited"...since my dirt ecperience is limited I take it pretty easy. Anybody else? Most of the riding here is harpack and rocks.

What PSI should I try with my stock Dunlop's on the street. I've tried everything from 35 to 20PSI. I'm going to give 20PSI another try before I toss them so, I thought I might see if I'm way out of spec. What's the spec PSI for these tires anyway?
Thanks!

I think i have just over 20psi in my tires and have never aired down for dirt... and have not had any trouble at all... even at the psi i am at i fet the rim hit a few times yesterday on some rocks.... so thats why i wouldnt wanna air down, and roots and such... too much stuff in the woods.... i never touch my air, never have. and im still going everywhere i want when i point that front wheel....

RE: How low can you go...
This topic is funny because the other day my buddy on his DRZ400 got a flat in his front tire before wegot to the trails. Than today he went way too low(against my advice) to about 10psi in the rear without Rim Locks...........I was at 11psi in front and rear(trakmasters)without a hitch on road and dirt........He however ripped the air hose from the rear tire about 10 min into the day.
That's 2 missed days of riding due to low pressure without rim locks. I am a novice to the sport...but since I have the rim locks, I run 10-11 psi front/rear for almost a year now w/o a problem...and I ride in a variety of terrain.
I would not go passed 16psi w/o rim locks!!!!
On your next tire or tube change...just add the rim locks...can't go wrong.
