How long have Kawasaki been making the KLX 250 ?

Far to long as in well over 15 years. But thats why a Yamaha costs so much more than a KLX.Your in England and are probably restricted to a 250cc max for your first year of riding. Here in the good old USofflawyer states a 16 year old kid can walk into a Dealership plonk down the cash and ride out on a CBR900RR. And they still wonder why we have clutch interlock switches, kickstand switches.

Psh, they shouldn't let 18 year olds plunk down on 600s around here... I know one guy threw his down high rate of speed, ended up in the hospital, and then BOUGHT ANOTHER 600 race bike!! Idiots...
Exactly how old is the motor in the KLX? I'm not so bothered by the old tech of the frame and suspension, I'm curious about this ol' 250 motor though.
