Default How is the Job market for the Computer Field in Florida?

I think I have about had it with the cold. Now that I am no longer employed, maybe t is time to move off the polar ice cap(Buffalo NY) and go some place warmer.

I am waying my options

The IT industry in NY is crap so I do I:
a) change careers
b) open my own business
c) move
d) re-enlist in the Military

At the age of almost 36 I am starting to get a bit old for option d. My wife is giving me crap about option "c".

Federal is the way to go, especially if you are prior military. I would try DOS or DOJ. Hell, the VA can help you out.

Not to be mean but why would you ask this question here? Why not call some companies in Florida and find out from the source?

It was meant to target the folks that are in this forum that live in FL. The IT career is a small knit group. There is high probability that you will work with, speak with, or having meatings with folks even after job changes due to technology expo's and such. Most IT people know what the market place in their geographic region is like even when they are not looking for work. Many companies dont advertise their IT positions because there is no need to. Word of mouth spreads like wild fire. Due to the fact that I live in Buffalo, it is extremely dificult to find companies who have IT needs because of the topics discussed above.

I am already on every job board known to me. It was just a question

I am not a programmar, nor do I know any of the programming languages. I am more of a Cisco Engineer.

A lot of people who don't know wouldn't suggest option D, but I think that may be a good bet. I am in the Air National Guard (1 weekend a month type) and also have a fulltime professional job with the State of California. Guess what, fulltime military pay might not look like much but when 30% of your income isn't taxable (BAH/BAS) and you don't pay for health benefits or retirement, you net a good paycheck. Also, a fed job would be great but it will take several months or better to get in their hiring system where you could probably be back in the service in just a couple months. Good luck to you.
