You'd think the guides and rub blocks would wear noticeably too...along perhaps with the cam sprockets. In my case with over 10,000 miles, I could see no consequential wear on those items, other than the chain which was beyond spec. I even had a couple of bonafide experts that I trust closely examine all the contact parts, and they concurred. We even got the Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass out to make it look really official...LOL!

Anyway, I'd suggest you closely inspect those parts too, but don't be surprised if there's no appreciable wear other than the chain. Maybe because it's a roller chain, it's not as durable as a hyvo style chain, which I think wears longer as a general rule...and is generally better for higher rpm or speeds.

ok great, so i take it that its pretty easy to get the old cam chain out because you already have the whole top end apart right?

No, you have to dig a little deeper int he bottom end to get the cam chain off. I can't remember the name of the gear that is in front of it, but they put that nut on with the torque of a thousand buffalo... Good luck!

Yep, this is one of those, "the leg bone is connected to the thigh bone is connected to the hip bone"...etc., etc., etc. You have to pull the clutch basket...then you pull the primary gear connected to the crank...then you pull the oil pump gear. Here'a pic. That last gear is the oil pump gear. Believe me...I tried...but that chain ain't coming out without all this. Now, that said, it wasn't as hard as it sounds. I used a 1/2" drive air impact to bust everything loose. Retorquing to the recommended spec was done in an order that allowed me to tighten the primary gear and clutch basket gear without having to use the recommended factory holding tool.
