how to change front sprockets?
#61
Did any one replace the sprocket washer, as stated in the service manual, or just reuse the current washer? I am changing to a 13t Renthal, for increased torque. I have one race remaining this season. Oct 16, Motocross, 30+ Open.

Wow! For offroad the 13t front sprocket is a must! Increased torque. I am using the Moose Racing, Motorcycle Superstore. I purchased the Renthal, that works on the 06-07, but it does not fit the 09. I am going to practice this weekend at Haspin Acres. Final race of the Motocross series is Oct. 16.

Wow you race your KLX?? I'm impressed. I have the opportunity to race in a few upcoming enduro/ cross country events, but have been reluctant thinking as versatile as the klx is racing is not one of it's qualities. Please do tell more?

That said, it's great fun to get your feet wet with any bike to see what MX racing is all about...or any other racing for that matter. That street legal class we used to have was a load of fun.

Yes, real MX, 30+ Open. I purchased my KLX, Memorial Weekend on ebay, 09 w/1288 miles. Showroom new! I started riding off road, ATV trails, that first weekend. Mid thigh water holes and loose sand hill climbs, is very difficult with low horsepower. I love MX and made the change, when I went to practice, and they were racing. I love air! I am not winning races. Last place. My goal is to be competitive. This bike lacks in horsepower, suspension, tires, etc. Technique is the only thing I can control. I spent my practice time knowing every turn and jump. What gear and speed, never looking at the speedometer, but feel and sound. Smooth and Fluid! I joke that I can not make a single mistake to catch the field. I am fast off the line, reflexes. With the pack into turn 3, then a long high speed straight with a large table top. Goodbye. I caught the back of the field on lap 3.75, 5 lap- 1mile transitioning terrain. I was told by the top racers that they were very impressed with my riding. On the street with this sprocket change, I can feel the increased torque. This is a great bike! I have not stopped Smiling or having Fun! Technique/Fluid/Smooth/Fun Fun Fun!
