I want some Simpsons riding gear.


As far as mileage I am just about at 2500. I try to change the oil and filter every 500 miles. Its soon time for new tires again.

 

5500mi and three more weeks 'till they remove the pin holding my hand together. Sorry...haven't been able to ride for three weeks [sm=bangbang.gif]

 

Hey Tony I almost forgot about you hurting your hand, sorry buddy, what happened again?,....And how can I avoid the same thing. Good to hear from you, I was going to take a break and spend some quality time with myself, but I just can't seem to stay away from here.[&:]

 

I asked about this awhile back and got different responses. Some guys who ride the dirt a lot claim to change it as often as every other ride or less than every 500 miles. I have 3200 miles on mine and I've changed it 3 times now. I'm trying now to change it every 500-800 miles now. It's weird how the maintance manual does really tell you squat about this. I'll post my pic after next week when I finally have the Muzzy on it.

 

According to the book it says the first change at 600, then the next one at 7,500, then 15,000 miles. But like a lot of other guys here I did my first one early at 40, then 200, then 540, then 1000. I now have 3,000 miles on the bike, I am leaning toward 2-3000 miles between changes. Also if anyone can post what the requirement are for synthetic oil, I just found out that my local auto parts store carries synthetic for motorcycles now, I seem to remember something about a SJ or J rating. Any ideas?

Well I switched to the Amsoil Full synthetic oil. It was $10.00 a quart, man that's a lot, but I think I will go at least 5,000 until the next change. It met all the requirements for Motorcycle oil. Right at the 2,999 miles. Amsoil regular oil is also what I had put in the Dodge Diesel and its good for at least 10,000 miles. I have heard good things about Amsoil, and a lot of the logging companies are using it in their work trucks and heavy equipment.

 

tell me your not gonna go 10,000 miles on an oil change in ur dodge.... i worked at a quick lube for 2 years so i have seen all kinds of things when it comes to lubrication and fluids on a car...my dad used to be a mechanic, now hes an insurance claim adjuster, he really see the effects of not doing basic maintenance

 

Sorry to disagree with you here, but amsoil for diesel engines is actually rated for 10,000 miles and more. In fact a lot of the guys are changing the oil filter only and continuing on. I work as a Maintenance Mechanic II for the University of Washington and so maintenance, even basic maintenance is something I practice everyday. Here is a website that will keep you busy for a while, but I have to tell you here in the Great Northwest and the logging capitol of the world, log trucks and logging related heavy equipment are king, and all those guys driving $100,000 trucks, and million dollar yarders and log loaders are not going to use a product that is not the best and at the same time stretching their dollars. Here's a quote from a head mechanic for a fleet of trucks.

"Trucks with AMSOIL have the oil changed at 50,000 miles, with filter changes at 10,000 miles. Trucks using non-synthetic have the oil changed at 10,000 miles.
