Default Honda XRE 300?

I am currently in Brazil and EVERYWHERE I am seeing a relatively new looking dual sport model, the Honda XRE 300. *It's a 4 stroke single with 4 valves and overhead cams but it looks air cooled.

Any body knowledgeable about this bike & how it compares to the KLX? What's it cost? Is it available outside Brazil?

I just Googled it. Seems to be Brazil only (so far?). Not much English info popped up, the one page I looked at was a poorly translated one, I don't know how much to trust what I read. Might be air and oil cooled. There was mention of a radiator which I took to mean oil cooler.

It looks like the Honda Tornado 250 motor but now with added displacement, fuel injection, and other issues tweaked to meet stricter emissions. I think the Tornado was available in Mexico, South America, and South Africa. Probably the same will happen with the 300. That said, I don't think it's competition for the KLX, WRR, or the newer designed CRF250L.

Interesting looking bike. I don't like the front fender.

U.S. $ 14,590.00 (C-ABS) *

Better the devil you know, i'd put a 330 kit on a KLX personally!!

Suspension looks a bit wishy washy & the couple of reviews i've read don't justify the price tag! Sounds like Brazil gets less choice than us in Thailand...

Almost $15k!? Either the middle class here is growing even faster than I thought or Brazilians are able to justify the price because they own bikes in lieu of cars. The relatively low/mid range components on the XRE certainly doesn't warrant that price!

Where are you in Brazil? I live in Rio.

The XRE has a single 4-stroke DOHC air cooled engine, which honda says to deliver 26hp@7,5k ...yeah right!! Weight is 145-150kg. I personaly think itīs a VERY ugly bike.
I canīt keep up with them on my SF, but I think itīs because of the gearing and not power. Accelerating it canīt keep up with the KLX.

The price tag posted here is wrong. The price on the site is in R$, not in US$. Still is an expensive bike (as any other sold here) compared to other markets, thou. About US$6500 and US$7350 (ABS).
We pay A LOT of money for our bikes in Brazil. Mainly because of the heavy taxes imposed by our ****y government. Itīs a shame.
