sold my 2012 klx250s..probably going the Honda crf250l route..gotta have FI.. found a way to shed 20lbs/add 6 HP to it..win win i hope

So the Honda scored a 3.8 out of 5 and the KLX 4 out of five. Very close in comparison.
The KLX made more peak power with its lean carb. Open up the intake add a pipe and jet kit, now we are talking even more. The toque goes to the CRF but with the above mods I imagine the KLX would beat it. Now to do the same to the CRF, open intake, pipe and Programmer, it might get up to the advertised HP of 23. But that would be a lot more money than the KLX with the pipe and jet kit because of the price of a programmer. After that the CRF still doesn’t have the suspension the KLX has. It is nice to see that they didn’t choose the Honda......well because it is a Honda with fuel injection, but by actual testing the two bikes back to back and not just going “Looks Good on Paper” method.

Technically just by the dimensions of the bore and stroke wont the honda always have more potential for higher torque? Not that it matters much, I still feel the klx won by a long shot.

Longer stroke = more torque

Good to know, wasn't sure if the larger piston compensated for it.

Wish I would have had time to take the Internal Combustion Engines class before graduating.

It would be interesting to throw some tires, rejet, and add a pipe to both and retest both bikes.

You can shed almost 8 pounds from the CRF250L by installing an aftermarket muffler. You can drop another 4 pounds by installing a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery. However, I don't see how the CRF250L can economically drop another 8 pounds.

I've seen reports the KLX250S actually weighs less than the specificied 298 pounds. Can anyone verify this is true?
