when my valves were out of spec...twisting the throttle back and forth while pushing the start was the only way it would start and required a long warming with choke out (nearly minute or longer)....yes, you are not suppose to twist the throttle on the klx250 from what i was told my a mechanic (flooding the carb and wet the plug he said)...

I don't think the mechanic is really correct on that flooding issue with the KLX with the CV carb as stated here on a starting issue. You get less fuel draw with the throttle butterfly opened during the starting process with the CV carb. Now, my TM36 can drown the engine in fuel if you just continue to work the throttle grip as it has an accelerator pump. On the other hand, I don't claim to have all the answers to some of these cold starting problems that some of you are having. Drilling the starter jet completely stopped this problem with mine and many others, but something different must be going on with the others. However, you're not getting extra fuel by cranking on the throttle grip of a KLX with a CV carb during the cold start process...even though you may get it to fire.

I know mine won't start without throttle cracked, maybe it has to do with helping the air fuel ratio more stabilized once the bike has been sitting

I find that during a hot start to roll the throttle slightly while cranking; it fires up straightaway. First/cold start, pull the choke out 1/2 way, let it fire and although it idles gingerly, it will not stall. By the time I put on my helmet & gloves it accelerates through the gears without flat-spotting. If it has been sitting for a few hours, it's KACR lotto. Sometimes it fires straightaway if it doesn't choke is required.

You can't pull the choke half way on the 09+ i believe, its a full on or full off sort of thing

I hold the choke while cranking and then release it when it fires. It also stops the engine racing to 4,000rpm when the choke is fully pulled out.
