Default HMF Slip on melting my turn signal (pics of bike added for Deej!)

Just a quick question for those of you you may have slapped an HMF slip on onto a 2009 KLX250s. I recently purchased a used 2009 with about 1200 miles on it for a great price "for my wife". :giggle giggle:

This thing pretty much looks like it just left the dealership with the exception that the HMF is melting the turn signal. Is it common to have to relocate the signals on a 2009 after putting on the HMF slip on or do ya think that the previous owner put it on wrong somehow?

I have to say that I absolutely love this bike. When I hop on it after riding my KLR it feels like I just hopped onto a BMX bike. The only other issues I have found with this one is that the previous owner did not rejet the bike after installing the HMF, and that he had slapped on some more street orientated Kenda tires. Thanks to this site's abundance of great info I will be tackling the rejet job tomorrow with a new snorkle thrown in for good measure.

Any input you guys may have about the HMF fitment on a 2009 would be greatly appreciated.

U could put a bit of heat resistive tape in the back of the turn signal, while u think about ur options for relocating it or new smaller turn signals. Some people have done a "turn signal tuck" this might just get it out of the way from the brunt of the exhaust, but im not sure.

I like the idea about the heat resistive tape giving me time to decide what I want to do. Thanks! I'm still wondering if this is a common problem when people install one of these on a 2009 though. Maybe it's time to whip out the BFH and do some modification!

@Deej

Ok ok sorry about the rushed post with no introduction. I've been lurking around on here for quite a while and really like these forums.

My name is Adam, 34 yrs young, live in Puyallup. Spent 11 years in the United States Army Infantry, got out in 2003 and now work as a DoD Civilian on Fort Lewis.

My bike is a 2008 KLR650 (green of course) and the wife's bike is a 2009 KLX250s.

Just got done with putting the new jets, needle, snorkel and 13T onto her bike a few minutes ago and hot damn what a difference! Couldn't have done it without all of the helpful info on this site.

Oh and by the way Deej it drives me nuts to park my bike dirty too!

Puyallup! Sweet another Washatonian......is that how you spell it? Anyway, perhaps we will get to ride together someday. We need to get a ride scheduled over at Tahuya by Bremerton. Its nice to meet another member that knows the value of a clean bike.

How do you like the sound of the HMF? I am thinking of getting one. I like the nice low rap they give. I'm tossed between the 2Bros and the HMF...Thanks
