Anyone have any experience with these? Harbor Freight has one for about $120. One place I read they might wobble. Any experience here?

 

I had one given to me that was bolted together. It moved/wiggled a bit till I welded it up. Now it don't move much at all. I moved the front wheel thing to the right side to make it easer to unload where I ride most often. I might put some lights on it if I went very far, like through Seattle .

 

Yeah, I got some cheapie off craigslist. I think it was originally sold at walmart. It does the job though and probably not any better than anything at Harbor Freight. Mine wiggles a little bit but it isn't going anywhere.

Not as easy to strap the bike down, like in the back of a truck. Probably because the straps go straight down and not out at 45 degree angles. I just use a couple of extra straps when I use it.

 

To stop the wobble on the cheapy racks, on each side, run a brace from the end of the rack & fasten it to the side of the hitch on that side (under the bumper as far to the outside of the vehicle as possible) with a threaded rod or brace, & attach it with something that can be removed with the hitch. With a brace on each side, the wobble is less.

 

I bought one 3-4 years ago from discountramps.com $100 shipped to my door. I love it. One of the best things I have ever bought. Works very well, and with the bike on the rack instead of the back of the truck, I can leave the topper on. With the topper, I can haul all my gear without worrying about it getting wet, or someone stealing it. The topper also makes a great sleeping area when you get where you are going. No trailer worries, flat tires, license plate fees, extra toll $ at toll booths, etc etc. I have looked at the racks at Harbor Freight and they seem a little less sturdy. My rack came with an "anti tilt device" which tightens the rack to the receiver and takes all of the slop out. When locked down mine doesn't wiggle at all. I think mine is called the AMC 400?

Used mine for many miles. Strap it down. And again. Tighten the anti-sway bolts after getting down the road a couple miles and it's better. We saw a bike fall off one on a washboard at moab. Pretty sure he didn't have the bike strapped down well.

I use an Ultimate MX Hauler. Expensive new, but I got mine off of Craigslist for $150.00 used which seems to be the going used price when you can find one.

Besides not having to push the bike up a ramp, the bike bolts through the foot pegs to the rack so no straps are needed. I hauled my KLX250S from Washington to Arizona and back with no problems.
