High Octane Gas?

High Octane Gas?
When I picked up my KLX the dealer told me not to run hi-oct gas, just regular. After installing an aftermarket header and muffler, removing the airbox lid, and rejetting the carb, I feel my bike runs better with premium gas. But I still wonder why the dealer told me to only run regular. Do any of you guys have an answer for this? What gas are you running? Is there any danger to my bike running premium?

RE: High Octane Gas?
Hmmm. That's funny, the book that came with the bike say to use a 91 or higher octane, but I could be wrong. I go by the book. I run the highest since fill ups for me are like less than $2.00. Boy that beats $60.00 for the Dodge Ram Deisel.

deej,
That's 91 RON, which is the same as the 87 you buy at the pump.
NavKLX,
If you're buying your gasoline here stateside, you can run 87 octane. How they rate the fuel over in Japan is beyond me. I know that the fuel off base was considerably more expensive back in 1969. On base was 15ยข a gallon, almost $2.00 off base. I chose to run the on base stuff whenever possible.
Now, what happens if you put in a higher octane than the can effectively use? Nothing, nada, nyet! Actually, 87 octane gasoline will technically give you better response than a higher octane will as it does burn faster. Higher octane gas takes more pressure to get it ready to release it's added energy, for that you need higher compression in the engine.
Feel is something other than making power. Improved throttle response does not mean it is faster or makes more power. Simply it is more run to ride or drive.
I run 87 octane in my KLX250S at all times.

I'm tapping memory, ther may be an error.
The manuals says 91 octane RON (Europe) or 87 RON/MON(US) octane link

RE: High Octane Gas?
Well we have three choices here and not all in one hose, I have neer seen a single hose for three octanes, hmmm that's weird. So we have 87, 89, and 91, could someone find out what we are supposed to be running in these bikes? It's not a mater of cost, but rather what will hurt or help the engine.

Page 39 of the Motorcycle Owner's Manual states . . . . 87 MON rated octane.
Regular Unleaded ! ! !
a16tony,
I fully understand your problem. However there is a simple solution, wait for some to fill up with 93 octane, and then when they're done, fill your tank up with 93 while paying for 87!
