With the tiny tank I only get 70 miles until I hit reserve so even though my commute is a short 16 mile round trip, I need to fill up every two days. Pain in the but. 55 mpg is better than 15 in my pickup but I am disappointed that this bike cant do 100mpg . I mean cripes, it's a lightweight 250cc machine. My lawnmower has 500cc.

55 mpg is pretty sad.
I got 72 mpg on my last fillup. That was mostly commute miles. The commute is 70 miles round trip with about evenly divided sections of 45 mph, 55 mph, and 65 mph. My bike is a 2006 with a 351.
With 55 mpg, I think I would revisit jetting, state of tune, etc.

My last fill-up was a little better than 45 mpg. But gears are low (13/45 right now), throttle twist is high, and mostly hard trail riding. I think I'm one of the few running such a small main jet on the 351 kit (124 DJ), although I think Ranger Ron runs even smaller main jet.
The KLR650 regularly pulls 55 mpg.

60 mpg yesterday, 50/50 road/dirt, lots of throttle twisting.
13T front, FMF Q4, Dynojet stage 2, Dunlop 605 at 20 psi.
I get much better mpg if I go easy on the throttle, but it's all but fun.

My shorter commute of 8 miles includes about 4 miles of 68 mph indicated which surely sucks down the fuel. When racing I have seen mpg way down in the 30s.
Long drives at low speeds are a recipe for high mpg in anything.

Hah! I'll have to get another race pic. I was so dusted out at the end of that 100 miles.
