hi all
names andy sold my old drz that i only used for green lanes..a bit heavy and tall for me..
i have just brought a 2009 klx 250 that had been badly maintained..but its savable lol..
any tips on mods you have done would be great ..i would like to unleash any hidden free power they restrict us from..would love to no about valve clearence times etc and after market exhaust and gearing as it needs front sprocket..
also is there any bits than can be removed ..ie the drz had some emmision thing that was quite bulky and useless so that was taken off by previous owner..
this goes side by side in the garage with my 08 plate z1000 and thats a toy and half lol..
user name will give away my old bike also
cheers

Hey Andy, welcome to the forums and of course the best Dual sport bike ever!!! Well I mean right behind the 06 which was actually the best one..hehe Anyway, Most of us have thrown on the full exhaust and changed the gears a bit to match the kind of riding we like to do, and jetting is important. I never removed any of the "smog" stuff on my bike, I wanted to retain some sort of stock resemblance. Other than that if you really want more power after some of the low cost mods, then it sounds like the big bore kit is the way to go. Me I'm fine with the way my bike is. Its all up to each person to decide what they want. Again welcome and post up a picture or ride reports, we love them here. Where are you located?

Hello Andy, and welcome.
From the main thread page KLX 250S - Kawasaki Forums sort by views and start with some of those that have lots of views (and thus interest, banter, etc). That will get you started. When you have questions, feel free to ask. This community is very welcoming. This is a good one: https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...q-links-30733/

I'm from Bracknell. I get out as much as I can on the lanes all weather with group lads that meet in crowethorne lidl car park.
Cheers for replies and I will look through old threads.
Just thought I'd ask mainly about mods that are easy and cheap. Think I will be more than happy with power even though its the smallest slowest four stroke single iv owned.
How do you post pictures ?

There's a few ways. You can make a gallery here and use it. I use photobucket and smugmug, and post links to pics stored at those locations.
You'll find lots of discussion on those "free & cheep" mods in the places I directed you. Lower gearing if you want torque, aftermarket muffler, and jetting are the typical places to start.

Hi Andy,
Since you've got a 2009, look in the sticky threads at the Shift Star breakage issue and solution. It's a common enough failure - and happens without warning - that I think it will be worth your while to pull the cover to see if it's been changed already, and if not to change it before it breaks.
As others have said, read away on this site as far as maintenance and modifications are concerned.
