I did shorten the carb slide spring and it was a little better, but surging still there at cruise.......just ordered OEM spring and slide and will be done with the bike. Bike is going to be for sale now....going back to pumper carbs and 2 strokers....
Did you add a ground to the existing black/yellow wire or did you cut the wire and ground the black and yellow wire ?

If you did the latter you did not ground the rectifier but "grounded the ground" so to speak. the black/yellow wire is the existing ground and you need to either add another wire to that or ground the rectifier directly (that ribbed box thing).

I was just reading this thread and the other one referred to here. I've never experienced any surging issues... knock on wood. I'm wondering if Kawasaki may have fixed it on the new '12 models. Has anyone experienced this on a 2012?

Got a 2012. No surging when stock. Had experienced it right after rejet going on wot but fixed it with very slight turn of the af screw out.

I spliced into the existing black/yellow wire and grounded it to case. I don't believe my bike was surging when I bought it a month ago.....surging started after drilling out slide to 7/64ths and monkeying with my spring. Soon as parts come in, I'll report back.

I really think that drilled out slide and spring combo is what I am feeling as you let off thorttle and cruise.....feels like you are on a rough road.....I even loosened my chain to rule that out.......

Anybody have some other ideas of what type of enduro I should get? I am new to 4 strokes and prefer a 2 stroke that will pull the front end up. My driving style is mostly trails and back country roads.

I am looking at a few local street legal 2 strokes and constantly looking for more. One of the bikes is a 2002 KDX200 (1200 miles) and mint....I just sold a 2001 KDX220 and it was okay for power, not like a RM250.

I also have seen a 1994 ATK 406 and it is interesting...fully rebuilt.

I pondered a 1997 XR650L and also looked at new 2012 XR650L's.....kind of like how high they sit up, but been told they are slow? Anybody know if you can pull a wheelie easy on a XR650L ???

another thing I need to look at is the vent hoses on the carb.....are they actually that necessary to go all the way down under the bike? Mine got burnt by the muffler and are about 5" long and I don't even have on on the drain tube?

My 2010 did the same thing yers is doin. I did the "custom" rejet by using the klx300 needle and usin regular keihn jets. I got so tired of fiddling with it so i bought the klx300 dyno jet kit. Made a big diff with the hesitation at low rpm. I too have a surge at high rpm. I need to adjust the needle that came with the kit. I have also grounded the rectifier better but that didnt seem to help. Im in the same boat but I aint gonna give up on the bike. Its not that noticeable. Try taking yer airbox snorkle out or take the lid off and try that.

If you can find a bike thats already streetlegal go for it BUT alot of the states now are frowning upon converting a off road bike to on road. They wont even look at it. I really really wanted to have a klx450r streetlegal but I think it would be so hard to get someone to approve it even though I would do all the mods to make it street legal. I will probably just keep my bike till its paid for and make it a 351 IF kawi doesnt make a bigger street legal bike in the 450 class. A KLR650 will not work for what I want to do. Too heavy for serious offroad.

Why does this CV carb on the KLX have 2 throttle cables? One of them is snug whiile the other one is very slack..can move it about 1/4" could this be causing that surging type feeling?

It's a safety feature. It allows the throttle to be forced closed if there is a seizure of the butterfly when the return spring can't do the job.
