Default Help, I striped the threads on the muffler side seat/plate bolt.

I just finished cleaning my airfilter. That thing gets dirty fast. While putting it all back together I some how stripped the threads that receive the top bolt for the number plate/seat.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

mmmm if there is enough "meat" drill out the remaining thread and tap the hole to take a larger bolt? ... This is only a suggestion, I'm not an expert by any means do this at your own risk

good luck

I agree with MavAus. That is probably the best way to go. As a cheap/easy first try, though, you might just try a self-tapping bolt of the same or barely larger size. Since there is not a lot of stress in this area, you might be able to get away with it. In the best case, you will be able to establish a new thread path with the same diameter. After doing that, you might even be able to go back to the original bolt and see if it works with the newly defined threads.

Pretty decent chance this won't work, but it is worth a try since the next step is to drill it out anyway.

FWIW, as memory serves, I think there is enough meat there to retap it.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Chris
