Is there any way to remove the plug from the air/fuel screw without taking out the carburetor. I was thinking if I just took off the first half of the exhaust I could reach it has anyone tried this?

Last week when pulling the top end off my KLX, I putzed with the carb for a few minutes with it in place to see how hard it would be to rejet without pulling it. Because of the starter, I think you have to do it on the right side. I have a Muzzy header, and it would have to come off to get reasonable access. I'd have to have my Acerbis tank off also. The throttle cables would need to be loosened and unhooked from the carb. The hoses have to be disconnected. Heck...at this point, it's just easier to pull the carb out and be done with it IMO. At that point I can get the carb out without having to pull the exhaust. Just my thoughts.

On the topic of "Hot Starts" I ride my bike to work almost every day. I also ride home for lunch, and if I'm there for a full hour, I need to pull the choke to start the bike, if I'm there for a short lunch....say 45 minutes, the bike will still start without the choke. So an hour seems to be for my bike the cut off. But as far as hot starts, I've never had an issue with the bike after its warmed up. Remember the old cars or trucks some of us had back in the day? You could turn the key, the starter would engage and faster than you could release the key, it would fire up. That's the way my bike is after its warmed up. I bet it only turns over once and its fired up. That's a good sign of perfect jetting, the right air mix, and valves that are spot on.

IMO your better off just pulling the carb, do the jet kit and remove the fuel/air plug at the same time. You'd be fighting with things in the way trying to do it while still on the bike.

I pulled my carb the first time I changed jets. I removed the cover over the AF screw, and also replaced the Philips head screws on the bowl with stainless allen head screws. These are easier than Philips to remove if you don't have and exactly straight shot to get at them. Changing jets after that all I had to do was loosen the boots holding the carb, remove the throttle cables and spin the carb in the boots. I may have to disconnect the fuel line too, can't remember right now. I do work from the right side, and it isn't like I have tons of room, but it's quicker, and overall easier.
