Default Helmet cameras

I was thinking of buying a camera for myself for Christmas, they all have good and bad points, but i think i am leaning towards this Drift 170, anyone had any experience with it.

I havent seen those drifts. HD cameras cost a little more but are worth it. Contour HD is one of the best. They are starting to come down in price now. You will find them for about $250.

No direct experience, but it looks pretty nice.

I have a GoPro HD and it has great video quality, but the problem is mounting, it's just awkward. Basically like mounting a big cube on your helmet. What were they thinking? Because of that I continue to use my older but still bullet proof VIO POV.1 which is low-profile, but you have to carry the recorder in your pack. But the all-in-one bullet design of the Drift looks much more conducive to a clean and self-contained mount. That's perfect. Were I in the market for a new camera, I think that's the one I would get.

Unfortunately, none of the newer crop of cameras seems to be able to touch the audio quality of the older VIO. Which is unfortunate. The audio track is just as important as the video, IMO.

If all your after is helmet pov then get a bullet style cam but if you want a all around POV cam get the gopro. Dosent look like the "drift" does 60fps either kinda bummer.
Im a goproHD owner and love that little camera! Its really versatile. loads of mounting options, waterproof housing, just great functions and options all around. I used to mount POV cameras for the "Formula Drift" circuit for speed network before these cameras came out. I think the gopro is amazing.

eye of mine keeps making extra parts for gopro too

some videos i made with go pro footage in them:

What do you use to edit your vids? Is it true that unless you have a REALLY current and powerful computer, editing HD (1080p) is quite difficult if not impossible? Thinking PC here, have heard that Macs are much more useable for video editing.

I work on a mac and use final cut pro or premier to edit and after effects for animation / graphics. HD is more processor intensive I usually convert all my files to prores before editing because some camera compressions are hard for the computer to continually calculate. I dont know much about PC but i think sony vegas and premier are widely used. If you have a decent processor and 2 gigs ram you should be able to handle HD.

Just my thoughts, the GoPro sticks out so much its just asking to get knocked off in the tight bushy stuff, and the bigger frontal area the better chance of some thing hitting it,also i have seen videos that have fogged up, i know they sell strips to stop this but its a concern.
I like the idea of the screen, you can tell if the camera is positioned wright before you record all day,the only thing i don't like is no protective cover for the lens, if it gets scratched its tough luck.
And i found this one just to confuse things.

I got my GoPro hero (non-HD) on clearance for $97. While I'm sure the HD footage is amazing, I have been impressed with the standard cameras footage. The quality takes a big hit when uploaded to sites like YouTube, but in person on the computer or TV it looks good. I didn't have the scratch, but if you do I'd go for one of the HD cameras.
The gopro is goofy for being so boxy, but i have mine mounted where it is out of the way. Not sure if this would work on every helmet.
