Helmet Cam - Laps around an old field
#24
Well, we went out last evening and strapped the camera to Jerry's bike. He's the fast one. He did a 1:59.0, a full 11 seconds faster than me. If I rode like he did, they'd be cartin' me off to the hospital I'm sure.

I was thinking I could make up a few seconds on him in that front straight just after the first left hander. But in playing our laps side by side, he is only 1 second faster than I am there, so I doubt I can speed things up too much there if I'm already going pretty much his speed in that section. His run down that section does look a lot faster on vid, but the clock doesn't lie. Maybe because the camera is mounted directly to his bike with higher vibration and lower to the ground making it appear faster than if it was on his helmet where it is up higher and the ride is smoother like on my run. Problem with the helmet mount is that it requires modifying the helmet, so that was out. Also he rides higher in the revs which makes it seem that way, too. At any rate, he's 10 seconds faster everywhere else, so I doubt I'll be able to close up that much without risking life and limb. So I'll just try to improve my own time, but I'm not gonna seriously try to match his, he's in a whole other class when it comes to riding.
Anyway - fun stuff, hope to see some of your guys' sometime. Get those helmet cams on and post'em up.

Yeah, it's cool having the vids side by side, I can see where he's faster and by how much. Front straight: 1 second. Rough section we are even. Down the hill on the back side to the left hander: 2 seconds. Across that back section to the drop off: 2 seconds. From the drop off up to the left hander: 3 seconds. Etc. So he's picking up a little bit of time, sometimes a lot, in each major section. Add them all up, and that's the difference. My line through the swamp is faster, though.
It'd be pretty cool to see a real pro go through that and see what they did and how they did it. Or even an A or AA rider would be pretty entertaining.
