Heated vest electrical???
Simple question........How can I or can I even, hook up a 12v electrical heated vest to a 94 KLX 250 with a no battery electrical charging system? On my 2006 KLX 250 its right up to the batt, so how could you do with no batt on the bike????
Need some help on this one. Thanks in advance

hey Shawn,
the question isnt how it is if the stator can support it. what i would is attach it to the 12V just after the rectifier which is on the left hand side of you bike bolted to the chase near the carby, it has a massive heat sink on it.
there are 5 wires running to it, grouped in a group of 3 and 2. the group of 3 is the ac 3 phase running directly from you stator. the group of 2 it the one you want, just you normal 12V. some where splice the wires, dubble check it 12V and attach it as you normally would.
or you could find a 12v line in you ignition or around there.
if you stator can "put out" the amps needed, then you will see strange things with light and indicators. dont forget that the bike really put out amps over 4000rpm so when you test it do it at idle and reving.

take a look at the wattage of the vest. even 35 watt grip heaters can really tax a system and make sure you fuse your connections.
I put grip heaters on my bike (trail starr) and love them.Keeping the hand warm on 20 degree days.
I also have switched to Klim gloves, thin, warm and comfortable. Now I'm looking at one of their jackets.

That said, Baja Designs and Electrosport can rewind that 94-96 KLX stator for you, giving it just enough 'ooomph' to do the job. If you're really adventurous, Planet KLX has a do it yourself procedure...it's not for the faint of heart though.
I don't think your bike has a DC regulator, so if you want to run a non resistive type temp controller (PCM 'heat troller' or similar) with the vest, you will have to find an aftermarket rectifier or build one yourself if you're handy that way. Some dual sport kits include one.
Good luck.

Well as usual thanks to all that replied. I guess I need to think about how valuable using that heated vest is to me and whether the time and money to make the required changes are worth it. Not a simple procedure, don't want to damage the vest, $150.00CDN! I've got the will, just need to sit on it for a bit.
Thanks guys

Interesting similar to what i just added but heated grips here in uk got these oxford hard hands that are like wrap around elements that velcro over the stock grips.
Will my 09' bike be able to supply enough juice for these? bearing in mind i have a fuel injected bike, wonder if that means more power required for injector/pump etc?
