Default Having to do with forks, birds, and one stone...

So I need to do the fork seals on my 06 KLXs but I would like to kill 2 birds, or 6 with one stone so to speak. (And you thought that this thread was going to be about a stoned bird with a fork and no nums. You're silly!)

Things I would like to do while the front end is apart:

new seals
new front springs
new oil

Anything else I should look into while it's apart?

Also:
-I'm a big dude at 300lbs, so which front spring rating would be advisable, and where to source said springs? I also want to replace the rear spring as well, so any info on rating, brand, source would be great on this too.

-I have read on the forum that there are seal replacement kits. What is the best kit to reinstall on the shocks, and where to purchase.

-I have read about fork oil on the forum, but if anyone would like to recommend a type and brand to use the info would be great!

I will post a detailed photo toutorial of this work when it is finished.

Thanks all for helping yet another newb.

You can use the spring calculator here to see what rate they recommend.

The calculator says that I need .52's on the front and a 6.2 on the back. Does that sound correct?

I am 120kg (265lbs) and have 0.5kg/mm on the front and the rear is 6.7kg/mm. I have taken her offroad since having the new springs fitted and she's spot on! Did a few small jumps and things too and she didn't bottom out.

So based on that I would say your forks sound about right at 0.52, but I'd go up even higher on the rear (like 2.9 to 7 maybe) - especially if you plan on getting any air.

Hope that helps.

I have done the fork seals before. Changing the oil and springs are easy if you are doing seals in the process. I used Moose Racing fork seals. Cheaper than Kawi's parts and comes as a kit. So far, haven't had a problem with them leaking.

You might as well grease the steering bearings, I had to a couple of years ago.

OK. So .52' in the front for sure. And with me plus gear at 325 maybe, does a 7kg/mm sound about right?

I have read good things about the Moose seal kit, so I'll go that route. Does Moose have a website? What about a good place to order the springs?
