I read an article on that particular K&N air filter somewhere online (I'll dig around and see if I can find it again) - anyhow they rated it very good.

I have K&N air filters in all of my vehicles, and I've run K&N oil filters in my DR650. The pros and cons of K&N air filters have been debated in other threads - some like them, some don't.

I will say that the K&N oil filter (at least for my DR650) was justa paper filterthat didn't look any better than other oil filters. Maybe theyfilter better, but I can't really tell that by looking at them (new or used). I got a bunch of them off eBay for cheap, but I wouldn'tpay top dollarto get any more.

check out the Amsoil oil filters they actually are a synthetic filter media made by WIX/DANA...they work and they work well...but c'mon how many oil related failures have we actually heard about????dirt intake by an air filter yes.Use an outerwears on your K&N and you are fine.My atv has over 5000 miles in dry dust and it lives strong and well to this day and honestly the bike is easier on filters than the atv from what i have seen so far.

someone, actually several people told me to stick with the UNI air filter over the K&N in a thread around here somewhere. I do run the K&N oil filters though and they work great, but so did the stocker one. I change my oil so often that I'm sure it really wouldnt matter which one I used. I bought a bulk load of them (since theres 5 of us that ride these bikes) for 30 bucks or something off ebay. Cant remember the details, worked out to be like 3 bucks a filter I think. Fits great, no complaints.
