Default harness and throttle cable positioning

2009 250 I had fuel tank off to adjust valves over the winter and also replaced the throttle cables as a maintenance item -they had a pretty good bend where they attach to the carb- I dont really like the sharp angle they come in at

anyway= when I went to install the fuel tank I noticed I needed to push down a little on the right side and depress the main harness

The main harness runs on top of the throttle cables- that pushed then down some too

I actaully looked at digital pictures I took prior and its all back where it goes

But doesnt anyone else notice this

its a pretty crappy routing on that side by the radiator/.main harness, cables, tank eh?

I did'nt notice any problem with my 07, when I had it apart. If you are seeing interference or pinching on the cable your smart to address it. Always good to start the bikie and steer lock to lock to hear any difference in idle, indicating binding
good luck

even more so with a clarke tank (cable squashed down), do you have the little plastic cradle piece in place that the cables lay over?

When I installed my IMS tank on my 06 I had to 'unhook' and reroute those wires on/to the left side. Maybe give that a try. Not sure if you even can on an 09. I have a Vortex throttle , so only 1 cable on the right side. Later.

The extra wire looks like an extension cord. In fact it used to be a part of one. It runs power up front through a relay.

thanks for that picture- I appreciate you posting it!

that is exactly my routing- I took pics before I took apart

When you install tank you need to slightly push down that harness and that in turn pushes down the throttle cables and bends them more than I would like

They bend pretty good coming out of the carb too

They operate smoothly and not binding when turning or anything

Just a poor design in my opinion -I like cables free, clear and not hard angles

I hear you about liking the cables free but lots of things in mechanics require give and take. There just isn't the room to for it to be any other way so as long things work freely we'll have to live with it.
