KLX250 Starting problem solution
I just bought a new 2010 KLX250S (zero miles) from a dealer in Montrose, Colorado. They started it to bring around front and load on my trailer. Took it to my home in Gunnison (7800 feet) and it wouldn't start. I called the dealer and they suggested the same things I've seen in this forum (drain the float bowl, turn off fuel before shutdown....). Did that, it started but only with difficulty and I had continual trouble - even had to give it full choke when warm. I was in real danger of getting stranded somewhere.
BUT - it was under warrenty so I took it back. After trying all the usual things with no luck, the shop called Kawasaki and discovered that some bikes of this model have defective automatic decompression valves. And the problem gets worse with altitude. They put in a new valve and now it starts immediately with no effort, cold or warm. Hope that helps somebody else out.

Very nice...
But it was the first that that I kept reviewing in my head... Yuo are going out riding when it is below 40 outside...
Ok, this is probably the So Cali in me but holy crap that is cold!!!
Me and a buiddy went up to Big Bear (mnts) and it was down around 40... So I have done it but ... yikes... That is when the BMW Heated grips are kinda neat... my palms are hot and the rest is freezin..
Nice solution - glad it allows ya ta ride in sub40

KLX250 Cold starting
For the record, I started the new bike (after decompression valve fix) yesterday at 31°. Had to crank it a couple of times, but it started pretty easily. And yes, we did go riding (but not till it got to 37°). We live in Gunnison, Colorado (one of the coldest places in the lower 48). I've seen it snow around here twice on the Fourth of July. So it's either dress warm or stay home. As we say around here - you've got to be tough if you're gonna be stupid.

I ride to work at 32 and even 20 sometimes. But then again I only have 2 miles to ride but still. LOL

I just tilt mine toward the kickstand side for about 5 seconds and it kicks right off every time. But I keep it in my garage which seems to stay about 45 degrees even when its in the teens outside. Still...If I don't tilt it first, it'll just crank & not start. It's pretty easy to tilt a KLX for 5 seconds and no fuel ever comes out for me. I think people that see me doing think I almost dropped it and am having troube getting it stood back up. LOL
I was about to pull the head off to check the valves before I read this!.
5 seconds later, bike was started!
Champion!!
