Default Hard to change into 3rd/4th grear.

Hi all, 2009 klx 250, have a 13T front sprocket and a TM33.
Once I got the sprocket fitted with the stock carb I did notice occasionally that if the revs are too high you cant change up into 3rd/4th gear.
Now I have the TM33 fitted, with the extra acceleration its very easy to get the revs too high and not be able to change up a gear.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Can anything be done? Other then just shifting faster :P

Thanks

I actually had that happen to me last week. I installed the 351 and a 15T, I took it for a ride and had the exact same thing happen. I'm not sure what gear it was in (I don't count, I just go by feel and RPM) I shifted and there was nothing and then all of a sudden a jolt and the gear grabbed. Hasn't happen since then though.

No expert... but I think sometimes it just doesn't go all the way in to gear, especially when the oil is old / broken down. I've never really noticed it unless you don't jam it in gear. I pretty much just bang it up and down so not to let it fall between gears. I don't think it is a design flaw, just a nature of the beast. I pretty much just miss shifts every now and then and that's the only time I notice the transmission... besides the fact that 2nd is too far from first... but whatever LOL

Its definatly not the oil, I use good quality Motul oil, and its replaced regularly.

Maybe I should put the 14t back on the front and change the 42 on the back to a 47, would that make any difference?

I don't think its your sprocket unless you are using the wrong one. What kinda/brand did you put on?

I'll have to check when I get home, was just the sprocket they had in stock at the bike shop.

The reason I think its the sprocket as it changes the gearing ratio, therefore I have to change sooner, but with the TM33 carb I get into the high revs much faster then before :P

If thats the case its probably the wrong one. Order one from rocky mountain ATV for a Honda XLR650L any year.

The gear ratios wouldn't effect the changeing of the gears... and you can't rev it too fast to keep it from shifting. Mattter of fact, the harder you rev it the easier it should fall into the next gear (hence why you can shift without the clutch).

Only thing I could guess would cause it would be the motor making too much power for the stock clutch to fully grab and separate the power from the transmission? Someone more familiar with the guts of our motor should chime in...

Did the problem just arise after changing the sprocket? I'm not sure whats going on but try putting the stock sprocket back on and see what it does.

Thanks for the reply, yes after fitting the smaller 13T sprocket I noticed this problem occasionally, but now with the TM33 and the better throttle response it almost happens all the time.

Cheers
