The term is used as a proud or jocular self-description. Since the huge influx of new residents into Florida from the northern parts of the United States, and Latin America, in the 20th century, "Florida Cracker" is used informally by some Floridians to indicate that their family has lived there for many generations; and/or that they were born and raised in the state of Florida. It is considered a source of pride to be descended from "frontier people who did not just live but flourished in a time before air conditioning, mosquito repellent, and screens."[
To which I will add that local lore also associates it with the Florida cowboy of the mid and late 19th century, who rounded up wild cattle (descended from livestock originally brought to St Augustine by the Spanish) from the scrub. Their primary tools were a good horse and long leather whip. The whip, when properly used, creates a distinctive "crack", hence the term "cracker".

X,
We are all friends here for the most part and most of us have thick skin but "cracker" is like using the "N" word to some one of the white persuasion.
We came around a corner doing about 40 and here comes an early 80's cadillac with Tyrone at the wheel. I mean a pure-D Florida "N word", complete with NY yankees baseball hat and Glock.
That sounds real bad when you change the racial stereotype you get my drift.
