Todd, how long are your spacers? Did you put one on both sides?

They are 3/8" long and slightly smaller in outside diameter then the rectangle piece the bolt goes into. I'll take a picture today.

Default weak handlebars?

in 7 days i'll be driving 1000 miles with the klx strapped down to a Versa-Haul motorcycle carrier...are the handlebars too weak for this? i've hauled the Honda Trail 90 like this for 2 years with no problems, what should i expect with the klx?

Hey whats up man, You should be fine. I've been haulin around a yamaha wr250 for two years now on a similiar bike carrier aswell and its not a problem. I just sold it and i'm getting the klx in a few weeks. Only on one ocassion, I had a problem. I was goin down a road, hit a huge pot hole and one of the four straps popped off. Nothing happend but it was a little scarry. I suggest on a long haul like what your going on you put all four straps plus a strap around both tires as well for added protection, and you will be fine. Its a bad feeling with one of these carriers imagining seeing your bike pop off on the highway, i'm sure you no what I mean, it will be fine just drive safe..... Have fun and let me no how it goes with the new bike and all your opinions on it...

The handlebars will be fine for that. I do recommend you get a tie down brace to put between the front wheel and the underside of the front fender. A piece of 2x4 cut to length will work or you can buy one from a cycle shop. Compressing the forks enough to keep the bike steady without a brace is bad for them over long periods of time.
