Group '09 IMS gas tank purchase ( or least try)
#71
i saw somewhere someone makes an auxilarily tank that is made to mount to the "number plate" but we happen to have a headlight... something else to think about and there are a few companys that make a pretty thin aux tank that would fit on saddle bag frames.... but thats now why i bought the klx.... its not a adventure touring bike... its a dirt bike with a plate.

Yeah, but dump the coolant obviously. I don't think that container connects to anything, it's just a liquid holder. I seriously think it'd take really old coolant and 12 hours of beating this bike in 110 degree heat to make you resort to reserve coolant.

that container is connected to the filler neck of the right rad and its called the coolant overflow bottle..... and coolant expands when hot....so you would use more coolant when the motor is cool, or its cold out..... that tank is there so the pressure of the cooling system stays the same,,, taking or putting coolant back into that tank..... KTM's dont come with them... ask brian.... but its there for a good reason... i wouldnt go removing it or using it for gasoline....

EMS is correct to a point. . . The overflow (as the coolant expands) goes into the reservoir AND as the bike cools back down, coolant is withdrawn from it back into the radiator(s) to prevent an airlock in the cooling system thereby causing a hot spot in your engine and ruining/shortening the life of the engine! Same as in an automobile!

What space? The right side is filled up with a muffler and the left side has the coolant overflow and the battery. This bike is OVERfilled with the space provided. Thats why people remove stuff.
A bike NEEDS stuff, then theres stuff to help the bike function better and make it more reliable. The overflow bottle is one of them. The bike doesn't NEED that. Hell, the bike doesn't NEED to even be liquid cooled at all. Thats just one extra step to make it liquid cooled. It makes the motor last longer and make a little better power by staying cooler. On the same step may as well make the flow and pressure of the system regulate itself by adding a bottle. Then to expand it once more add a fan with a thermostat for those people that live in hot climates riding around on the tarmac at slow speeds, sitting at stop lights. Or super hot humid days in first gear in the woods with no air flow. It doesn't NEED those things, it just helps. You don't need a battery either, or a electric starter for that matter. You can just get by with a kicker ya know if you wanna start saving weight and space. Ya just kinda got use a bit of common sense and have a basic understanding of bikes and mechanics in general to see what you can and cant get away with and if its safe for you to do it. Like removing the snorkels and airbox lids. Motorcross bikes have neither, as well as some other machines. The lid helps keep junk out and the snorkel is for water. If your not riding in water take the snorkel out, if your not going to be riding through mudd, rocks, or loose material take the lid off. Gobs more airflow. doesn't hurt a darn thing and you get more air. Theres the air injection system...the list just goes on and on and on.

Good point... besides, petrol reserves around the exhaust? hmmm, not a fuel specialist, but something inside me says 'Bad Idea'.
And where would we be without an electric start? Probably running sub 9 second sprints with our awesomely toned leg muscles... well, the right leg anyway.
