Group '09 IMS gas tank purchase ( or least try)
#61
Put me on the list....but seriously, my *** wears out way before I ever run out of gas. If I ever took my KLX on a long ride I would bungee a pillow to the seat. I rode it for 6 hours in and advanced riders course on a hot day and my *** wasnt right for a week.

Finger Mullet stated that the fuel tank from a KLX300 (which is 2.6 gallons) will fit on our KLX250s. As I recall, he stated that you also need to use the KLX300 radiator shrouds. He said that he purchased aftermarket plastic. This presents the opportunity to change the color of one's bike, too! Oh yeah. . . the radiator fan must be removed. . . install low-profile fan(s) if you need to.

You really don't even need that fan. Its just "one of those things" added to help the bike out, give a little more reliability by keeping it cooler. I was riding mine in summer in the heat on a humid day through 1st gear tight trails and didn't kick it on. I think I may even take it off next time I'm in there. With that and the air injection gone thats less stuff to have to mess with on this hog.

but your assuming that the metal is quality stuff... did you know that the muffler is designed to add support to the subframe too? Gas weights 6.42 lbs per gallon... now throw in another gallon, and the container, then add big bumps and stuff.... what does that gas weight under g forces of riding being cantelevered out like that? I believe you... but i know i dont wanna chance cracking the back half of my bike off... and yes i have picked mine up with it too....
I don't care though, a gallon of petro isn't gonna crack the subframe. If she's rated for 11 pounds, 6 1/2# isn't gonna crack it. Things are always waaaay underrated as to what they can handle (obviously). If we can lift this pig by the rack and its rated for 11#.... .
I have one of those nice little red 1 gallon 4 ounce cans that would fit PERFECT right on the rear rack of this machine. And since 1 gallon is a alot of gas to this machine... should be good to go.
And no I didn't know the muffler gave support to the frame. Thats good to know, and also good reason to keep the stock or 300R muffler on.

While looking at a Baja Designs link for an auxiliary tank for a KTM, I thought of something.
Could we put spare gas into the reserve coolant tank behind the battery?
If we can't use that plastic then we could certainly fit another type.
What do you think?
