Grease when replacing wheels.

Grease when replacing wheels.
Changed my first set of tires and am preparing to put the rims back on the bike. Everything I've read says to grease when replacing........but, grease what? The manual says the seal lip..........but what the hell is that?
If anyone has a picture, that would be great. Nomenclatures don't mean much. Not mechanic, but trying to be proficient.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The seal lip is the bearing seal where the axle slides through (like the wiper seal you see on your front forks). Wipe down the axle, seal and inner bearing, place a light film of grease on the seal lip. I also like to put a light film of grease on the axle itself on re-assembly.

If there's a rubber lipped seal where the spacers, hub, and axle come together, a light touch of grease will aid the seal in keeping out dirt and water. I'd recommend marine grade waterproof grease, and a very light coating on the axle itself helps keep things from galling. And the next time you pull the wheel off, rub and clean off the old, dirty grease and apply a fresh, thin film. Don't go crazy by slathering a bunch of grease at these points. This practice isn't really helping lube the wheel bearings, but it can aid in keeping stuff from migrating down the axle and into the hub.
