GPS Suggestions???
I plan on picking up a GPS for the bike, this winter, and have absolutely no idea what I should be looking for. I know this could turn out to be something like an oil thread, so although model suggestions will really be appreciated, any input on specific features I should be looking for would be great, too. I'll be using it 90% off road. File sharing and tracking my trips are important. A guy at work tells me he and a buddy can track each other with their units (which he can't give me a brand or model name for) while hunting. Since I travel alone a fair bit, I was wondering, is there any way my cook can keep an eye on me from home?

Maybe this one will work. Garmin Rhino 120. I think you need two to track each other.

If you have a phone with GPS and have a cell signal, you can use www.instamapper.com so others can view your location. You can also use Google latitude for that matter.
Instamapper will store your locations and send them when you have a signal. I set mine to update every 5min.

SPOT is good for leaving a trail of breadcrumbs so the cook can find you if the souffle' hits the fan... but it won't do much good for anything else.
"Road model" GPS's will be useless for tracking, sharing, and generally anything you'd want it for off-road.
The older Garmins are the ones many off-road riders use (like the eTrex series and the 76Cx models.) I have an ancient Garmin Legend that I still rely on regularly. It allows me to upload tracks to it that I create on Google Maps, and to "record" tracks of where I've been, to download when I get home. Works quite well, takes regular batteries, and can handle a good dunking if it has to.

I used to use a Garmin Quest whaich was pretty good with the topo software. As eventually befalls all good dirtbike toys - it got smashed on the rocks. Don't believe anyone who tells you those RAM mounts are unbreakable....
