Hard Highway Miles on the klx

How exactly does one do that...

On the highway the speed limit is 70......everyone is driving 75-80+....are you flogging cars at 85+ ...... oh and 85 would not exactly be hard highway when soccer cages are cruising at 80

My car consistently reads 1 MPH under at all speeds based on speed radar monitors on roads all over (New Mexico has a ton of them set to go off at 45MPH in the Indian reservation). My KLX-250S is pretty consistent at ~4-5MPH under the speedometer reading so, I just add 5 to every posted limit.

Unhappy

For the canadian riders...I ran dirtroads all day on Monday and calculated my mileage at the end of the day. I ran 160kms (exactly) and the bike took 6.25 liters to fill it again. I had filled it when I left..so this works out to be right at 72.something MPG. (UK MPG). Not too shabby at all I thought. Bike has 2 Bros slip-on, 128 main jet, stock pilot, 3rd clip, and 2.5 turns out. FTR I hit reserve at 145kms...I did not do any tight trails, but ran consistently in 4th, 5th, and 6th between 70-90 KPH. And i did have the GPS on and did take note that at 100 KPH indicated on the speedo, the GPS read 90 KPH. I did not see what it read at 50KPH on the speedo, but I may do this at a later time.

Okay, just thought of something..does the speedo being off mess-up the odometer?

Yes

All you can do is use th odometer reading as a guide to when to get fuel. I consistently start sputtering at @ 160 kliks and can get to 180 before I refuel. I think about 60 to 70 mpg imperial would be about right. Not too shabby.

I have a completely stock 09' model and my tank is a 2 gallon tank. I have to switch to reserve at 95 miles on the tank like clockwork everytime. The owners manual states the reserve is good for half a gallon. So, take 95 divided by 3 (3 half gallons to equal a gallon and a half) that equals 31.66 miles per half gallon times to would be 63.32 miles per gallon on my bike. That's just about right b/c at mile 125 on a tank, I've got nothing left.

Just set the odo to 0 when you fill up. Then at next fill, divide the number of miles you traveled by the amount of fuel to fill back up. SIMPLE. I get just over 72.5 MPG every time.

The government radar 'speed monitors' are not accurate either so don't use them as a benchmark. That's why cops that aren't ****** give you a 5mph pad when they pull you over for speeding.

On commutes my cars odometer matches up well with my KLX odometer.
