Looking to get a rugged GPS for me bike. Some very cheap Garmin GPS II plus units available here in NZ. These are a little old but have read a few good reviews. Guys, any thoughts.

Just done some home work here in NZ and on the net. Seems there's alot of Off road bike riders pretty happy with the Garmin Etrex vista hcx. Was just that the Garmin GPS II plus was $100. Might be just a can of worms tho.

I have the cheapest Etrex The "H" model. Basic functions and does the job. Has the high sensitivity of the $600 units so it's all good. Connects to my Mac and Google Earth and works for me. Battery life is 20 hours and I have a Powerlet power cable and RAM mount for the KLX.

Cost me AUS $100

Can't load maps though, so if you're after that function look elsewhere. It's the KLX of GPS if you get my drift, robust, to the point and gets the job done.

I just got a Gramin eTrex Vista HCX. I really like it, i figured to buy a good one so i wont have to buy another one for a long time. I have used it in my truck for finding addresses too, works great, tested out the waterproof part of it on saturday. Id highly reccommend it, I have the RAM mount so i can use it on both bikes and my truck.

Thanks guys. I almost got sucked in to the GPS II plus but I see that model is now quite old. Will start looking at the etrex models seriously.

There's a great deal going here on a eTrex Vista. No mention of HCX on the packaging. Any clues as to what this will be like?

All the Etrex models are pretty good. What's a good deal?

$200 Kiwi. TYRES: Do you know if the D908 you run will fit the front rim on the 09 model.
I've had a look at these tyres you run and like the look of them. Front Rim is: 21 x 1.60

Seems like a good deal for a 'mapping' GPS.

Dunlop D 908F will fit the KLX. Good tyre IMHO.
Works well with a 120 section Dunlop D606 rear.

Yeah, that's my plan. Still heaps of life left in the 605s but with winter coming on I need something better for the mud at least on the front for starters. Will the 120 wide 606 fit the 18 x 2.15 rim?
