Gotta open it up!

Gotta open it up!
Well, after much agonizing over an exhaust, I finally made the plunge. My full exhaust will arrive in one month. This is not my bike, but without the graphics, they're pretty close. The muffler islonger than I wanted it to be, but I had to come-up with a compromise when it came to balancing looks with quality, noise level and performance.
Strong points of the system are:
-Very good construction/materials
-At least five years between repacks(thats guaranteed, so probably longer).
-Very good flow
-Reasonably low noise level (92DB)
Weak points(in my view):
-Longer than I would have wished
-It's a full system, so there's no interchangability with slip-ons and such.
I chose the titanium color.Other availablecolors are blue andgreen titanium as well as carbon, which I think has no place on this type of bike. The hard part will be waiting until almost February to get the exhaust. They start building when you order.
As you can see, the header and mid-pipe come 'pre-blued' [8D]It actually looks good in real life.

RE: Gotta open it up!
looks like a sportbike exhaust to me. and imo, probably a huge waste of money for what little it's going to do to a tiny bike like the KLX 250S. I mean it's nice to be different, but sometimes a chevy or ford is worth the depreciation compared to the much higher cost of an import.
now, if it were going on some overpriced KTM or gasgas thing, it may look ok. but on a $4700 12 year old design Kawasaki weakling, I'm thinking it may be overkill. but hey, to some money ain't no object. as long as you're happy, well, that's all that matters.

LOL! Actually, there's a green titanium muffler that fades into a shade of yellow that photos don't do justice. I was considering getting that one just to say my Kawi had green somewhere on it, but naw, I tire of flashy colors pretty quickly.

Yes, those are good points.
I've been through the entire range of pipesfor this bike and came full circle right back to the first pipe I looked at.
I live in Japan, so every "Chevy or Ford" I look at is actually an"import." The pipe I ordered is actually quite common on D-trackers in Japan..so I'd prefer to say it's more like a "Chevy" where I live. If I didn'tgo with a domestic brand, I would have been dealing with longdistance, slow response timeon all support issues.
Let's say, for instance, BG sends me the wrong QC insert. That's a minimun of one month turn-around time just to get a replacement.
Another fundamental difference in how we view mufflers is I feel it's something you should install and not have to mess with for quite some time. Do-it-yourself repacking at ridiculously low hour intervals, sending overseas for repack or searching for an air riveterto pop-in stainless steel rivets bordersupon lunacy in my book. Five years sounds about right. Staintune sounded even better(no repack), but the only noise report I have ever received from owners is LOUD..even with quiet insert installed...can't getawaywith that in my neighborhood.
As far as matching bike to exhaust, my bike is the motard version (D-tracker), so I'm not so worried about whether it looks like a sport or dirt bike exhaust.
Lastly,as I get further up inage,I find that theless time I spendneedlessly tinkering with something the better.Maybe if I had a full work shop with tools and enough spare time I would feel differently, but right now paying the extra money for the extra peace of mind is well worth it.

Only one item, Mav... noise level.
I best report I heard on them from owners is 'loud.' That's even with quiet insert installed. Staintune was my first choice, but the noise issue killed it for me. I don't evenmind the lack of support in Japanfor that particular pipe, because they are so wellmadethat I don't think it would be an issue. However, whenI heard the noise report from one of our forum members, Ihad to cross it off the list. If I lived anywhere else -even in a more rural area of Japan- that would be my pipe of choice.

I know you were considering the Staintune, just curious what turned you off it?
Cheers

Yeah, it's one loooong son-of-a....gun. That's why Itook such a long time to decide. I'm thinking the look will grow on me. If not, I'll just wear theugliness like a badge of honor[8D] Seriously though it's not very photogenic, but looks pretty sharp in real life.
Earlier D-Trackers had down-swept rear fenders which made the pipe look down right fugly!..The end stuck way above the fender[:'(]
Price is about 2 bills higher than theBig Gun;two-and-a-half higher than the Muzzy...about 600.00US at current yen rate, after thedealerdiscount. Thisguy takescare of people who buy new bikes from him, plus I've beenteachinghim English, so my discounts are a little bit better. I make sureI remind him of that each time I visit.
I know the price probably drops some jaws, butI'ma happy camper knowing I won't have to fuss with it, it performs well and won'tcause the neighbors totorch both bike and home.
