hey guys i got my first bike. i decided to get the one i wanted and i found a green 14 for 5300 out the door. i got a little play room in the parts department too but nothing crazy. i went and got my permit first thing on sat morning them drove to get the bike. i made the hour ride home with it in the back of the truck, unloaded it and it started raining lol. i got to ride it a 1/4 mile before the rain haha. it has .7 of a mile on it. its been freezing cold so i havent got back on it unfortunatly.

in connecticut you have to take a class and get a sponsorship before you can take the license test so i have that scheduled for may.

im pretty excited about my first bike. i have alot of experience on 4wheelers hopefully i dont kill myself on the bike. any advise would be great thanks!

 

I just bought my 2014 a month ago. You got a good deal at that price. Plus, I've been riding all my life on every type of bike. I can tell you, that you made a great choice for your first bike. Don't be disappointed by the feeling of low power during break in. Especially if you follow break in procedure. Once broken and you can use its full potential, you will be happy with its power. You will have to rev it, but that is how it is designed. Everything else about the bike is impressive. I hope you intend to ride off road a lot, because that is where it truly shines. Great versatile first bike that can grow with you as you apply the many available mods. This weekend we are gonna hit nearly 60 degrees here in Wisconsin. The bike is gonna be out. Was 11 degrees this morning as I went to work, when is it gonna get warm! Enjoy your bike.

 

I bought a 2009 with 1400 miles on it Monday. On Tuesday I went riding with a very experienced rider, on a variety of terrain, including some very technical and challenging single track woods trails. I was extremely please with the performance of the bike. I am not a small guy and I felt the power and torque was good. You made a good choice.

Bought my 2009 brand new in June of 2008. My first bike. I had some seat time on a friend's Ninja 250 before the KLX, but the day my dad rode it home was the day I went and got my permit. I sucked. I dropped it the first day turning around. Now? I still drop it. Not as often. But I'm 100x the rider I started as 6 years ago. I used to be afraid of the smallest obstacle. Now I ride by myself through all kinds of hairy situations. And yes, mod as YOU grow. I couldn't be happier with my sprocket combo, jet kit, pipe, bars, bark busters, etc.

PS: That's a good price. I paid 5400 out the door for mine. Not sure what your taxes are up there in CT... its 9% down here.

 

thanks guys! i took a look at the air filter today. boy that stock snorkel is restrictive! the filter has no oil o it at all. im assuming its supposed to be oiled and not dry.

ill pick up some air filter oil if it needs it.

 

Your dealer send you out with a dry filter?

Yes, it should be oiled if it's the same foam filter the rest of us have.

Make sure the bike has enough motor oil too.

 

apparently they did. also i was half way home before i realized i didnt get an owners manual either. i havent had a chance to call them yet about it either. ill bring up the air filter also at that time. i checked the engine oil right off the bat out of my distrust for most anyone who works on my things. thats why i do almost everything myself on all my vehicles.

 

Check the wheels too, my buddy got a bike with a loose axle nut from the dealer. Also my battery was hooked up poorly and the oil over filled from the dealer. Not sure if any one has experienced this but on both my 2012 and my buddys 2012 the brake line rubs the clutch cable and wears the insulation out in like 600 miles, so I pulled the lever assembly off and tucked the line on the other side of the clutch cable and its flawless.
