Good extra fuel options after the Clarke/IMS tank has run dry

Man, keeping gasoline in an aluminum bottle rattling around on the rear rack souds to me like a flame thrower waiting to happen. Water bladders sound worse. That "gray dust" is the metal slowly wearing away. A leak seem imminent.
I've seen small reserve tanks that fit in under the left side cover where the coolant res is. I've seen the over the light ones and theres one that fits right on the rear rack.
All of these are over engineered, rotomolded and intend for carring gas. They are pricey though. After you pay for an aux tank you could have upgraded to the IMS and had $$$$ left over.
I saw them at http://www.justgastanks.com
Baja Designs makes 2 for mounting under left side cover

The acerbis front mount looks like it's pure dirtand would cover the headlight on a KLX

I have been getting 62MPG pretty consistenly. I have the Clarke 2.8 Gallon tank. Today and did maximum range test. Mail got me 149 miles and reserved took me to 169, an extra 20 miles before it ran out.
I have a couple 1 Liter camping bottles made out of aluminum strapped to my back rack. The more I use them, the less I like them. I have rediscovered my distaste for bare aluminum with any vibration. These things create tons of dark grey "dust" that is a real mess to clean up. The fuel bottle dent pretty easy but, they have proven durable enough.
I'm not a fan of the soda pop bottle option. I'm not going to spend $250 for a .4 Gallon increase an IMS tank would give me. I haven't found any plastic fuel carriers that are appropirate. Short of fabbing something for a leaky 1 gallon Wal-Mart special, what fuel bottle/tank options should I consider?
THANKS!

What about the plastic bottle that Coleman fuel comes in?? Looks tough enough to me. Slip a couple of them into your side pockets of the fanny pack and you are good to go. you know that Coleman has the bottle designed to be leak proof or their attorneys would have a real time with lawsuits otherwise.
Just a thought!,

+1 on the Koplin leakage; mount them vertically.
Here are some other options:

I've looked at add on tanks specific to the KLX and others. ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS with these prices??!!??
I've been doing some outside the box looking around and have come across sites that sell fuel cells for remote control vehicles, gokarts, mini bikes and aftermarket lawn mower parts.
I've found some pretty interesting things for rediculous money.
I 'm getting closer but so far no cigar. I did find a 32 oz roto molded fuel tank for RC that was $499........................OOPS, I mean $4.99 !!!!!!
Ok. It's 32 oz but 2 of those is 1 gal. Certainly worth $10.00, doncha think??
I've found others for mowers and gokarts that are like in the $25-$50 range but bigger. Many would install easily on the rear rack but I'm looking for somewthing that will mount on the sides of the rack like mini saddlebag fuel cells.
I'm thinking they could be mounted on both side of the rack and plumbed into a T then straight to the petcock with another T and a seperate petcock for the aux tanks. I'm looking for a cylindrical shape. A third could fit in front of the bars if a person wanted.
Has anybody else looked into this?? We are all MODDER fixers, we don't have to use what manufactuers make just for our rides, do we??![Big Grin](https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Check this out. I couple of people I know who do a lot of off road riding use these Platypus bladders for extra fuel. They are marketed to hold water, but hold fuel just fine. They are tough as an old boot...three layers thick! You can fill them full of fuel and throw them against a wall and they won't leak a single drop.
How do the platypus bladders do with sharp sticks at 30 mph ??

I would HIGHLY reccomend riding your bike in internal combustion trim and leave the external combustion riding to the hard core guys.
No wonder Bill keeps his in his garage.
