Default Good Deal? Opinions Welcome

Hello everyone, I have once again started the quest for a perfect KLX250s. Last year I was all about getting one but I couldn’t afford new and finding a used one was few and far between. I had just about given up hope until a day ago.

I stumbled upon a 2006 with 464 miles. The thing literally looks like it was rolled off the showroom floor and never ridden. It only has a "minor scuff" on the radiator shroud that’s the size of a quarter. So it’s literally brand new in my opinion. The price was $3600 but they would only go down 100. So $3500 with a neat stand (worth $100). I think it’s a good deal and wanted to get everyone’s opinion. I have a 500 bucks down and am working with the bank (which sucks) but I think it will all work out.

So the only thing I’m looking at as far as maintenance is to check the valves and change the oil, right?

Thanks,
Nick

Sounds good to me. Some might say different, but I wouldn't even worry about checking the valves with that little miles on it. If you plan on going in the dirt with it ditch the stock tires and get some rim locks for it. Hope it works out for you.

$3500 doesn't sound too bad to me. NADA Guides shows the "average retail" of a 2006 to be$3265. With only 464 miles on the bike, it is most likely above average. I've seen some sell for less, but there seems to be regional shortages that drive up prices. You do what makes you happy.

I wouldn't worry about checking the valves either. Kawi doesn't even recommend it until like 6000 miles or something...

Hey, there are only so many of the used KLX250s' available... and in your area, wherever that is, perhaps it'll be a long time before anther one pops up. ... and the next one may be showing some abuse or road rash! [:@]So get it and get happy. It's a terrific bike. Hope that you love it like I, and so many others,do! The price isn't bad. (I bought my '07 new for $4,299 and felt like I stole it. The dealer inOregonhad 7 of them!)

Nice to have you on the forum with us... You'll get lots of help if you need it.

Good deal. We paid $3500 for ours from the dealer and it looked like new but had 1200 miles on it.

It sounds like a good deal, but when you look into it, it seems a bit high to me. The 2006 KLX may be a 2006, but chances are it was built in the late summer of 2005 making it nearly three years old. I know my 2006 was built in January of 2006 and it was one of the late ones. I have seen many go for $3000 like the one you describe. I had a chance to pick up a 2007 with a little over 100 miles for $3200 and passed on it. Not because it wasn't a great deal, but because I wanted to wait on the new '09. Yes, this is Iowaguy or IG whatever you want to call me. I would wait and see if you can get say $500 off the price. If you offer the seller $3000 and say this is all I got, chances are he'll take it. Not everyone out there is buying used KLX 250's especially this time of year. Call his bluff, if he's already come down $100 chances are he'll take $3000. The '07 I just spoke of started out at $3800. No one would buy and I offered him $3000. He came back at $3200 but it was too late as the new '09's were revealed which to me is a better bike. Ebay is a good judge to what bikes will sell for. But to me, $3500 is too much for what is now a three model year old bike. I'll bet that $3000 will buy that bike if you can have a little patience.
