Going to buy new bike this week end
Hello to everyone,
First of all I want to say I have read many of your post before registering.
You guys have opened my eyes to many things about the KLX250.
I have a couple of questions about the bike though.
1. I plan on using the bike to ride at least four times a week to work,,I work about 44 miles away from my home one way.
Do you guys think this woud be ok on the motor ? By the way my weight is 208 llbs.
2. I have read many post where you guys talk about top speed ,
On a stock motor what would my cruising speed be?
My drive to work is mostly high-way.
If all goes well I will pick up my new bike this week end .
I hope some ones out there can help me out.

RE: Going to buy new bike this week end
Your commute shouldn't be a problem. I commute about 35 miles one way, 4 days a week, mostly on the highway. I've had my bike up to about 75 mph, with all the mods, and I weigh about 200lbs. I could cruise relatively easily at 70 when it was stock, but if I was going into a headwind/uphill, I had problems maintaining 60.

this is just my opinion but for someone in the 200lb+ range id suggest something bigger than a 250. i weigh 165lbs and its just enough to keep me happy... dunno if that would be the case if i was any bigger tho i guess it all comes down to how much power is enough for you. I'd strongly suggest taking one for a ride tho b4 u buy it.

2.) Without the mods, the bike is very under powered, trying to maintain highways speeds is going to be difficult, the stock tires wear quickly on pavement, and you will need to re-fuel everyday to stay off reserve.
All things considered, I would look at a bigger bike that is more suited for commuting, something in the 650 range. Suzuki, Honda, and Kawasaki all make dual sport 650's that won't cost anymore that the KLX250.
