Default Going to Australia

I will be traveling to the New South Wales area of Australia in a couple of weeks. Will be there for 3 months and am wanting to ride on some days I won't be working. If anyone has any idea of a good bike rental place or a loner bike I could use and tag along on a ride I would appreciate the help. Thanks

You may try ADVrider in the Australia region.
Australia - ADVrider

Sounds like a great opportunity. Have fun down under.

Hey mate.

Bike hire in/around Sydney is pretty hard to come by. When I last looked I couldn't find anything decent. Also, are you bringing your own kit to ride in? It would be wise, as hiring clothing/boots/etc will be even more difficult than a bike. What size helmet do you wear? Coz another pain is that in NSW the road rules state you have to wear a helmet with an Australian Standards approved sticker on it unless the circumference of your head is 62cm (24,4") or greater in which case you can get a medical certificate to say as such. It is only on very seldom occassions that the cops will check that though, so might be worth taking a chance with your normal lid and pleading ignorance if caught.

What sort of riding do you normally like? I am a pretty placid rider so if you're not looking to do anything too serious I can show you a couple of spots to ride. As long as my Husky is still running (she's sick at the moment) I should be able to lend you my KLX - however transporting it could be a challenge as my trailer only takes 1 bike.

I'll keep my eye out for info on bike hire in case you can't borrow my bike. What sort of dates are you thinking of incidentally?

Just sent you a PM, but thought this info might be useful for anyone else thinking of coming to NSW:

There's a forum called Dirt Bike World which I'm a member of that has community organised rides (dbw - dirtbikeworld.net Members Forums - Powered by vBulletin). I believe there's another similar one called Dirt Riderz - but I'm not familiar with that one. You may also be able to find some useful info on the Dual Sport Riders Motorcycle Association (DSMRA - https://www.dsmra.asn.au/) - they do organised rides and may be able to point you in the right direction for hiring a bike.

Just found these too:
A & A Macarthur Hire - http://www.trailbikehire.com.au/
A & J Sullivans - http://www.motorbikehire.com.au/

Thanks for the info Arctra. I used to race Harescrambles, but that was many years ago. On road or off doesn't really matter to me. Would just like the experience of seeing some of Australia from a motorcycle. Some Saturday afternoon's and Sunday's are my times off, won't know for sure until we get there. If nothing else, would be cool to meet up and bench race with fellow enthusiast.

3 months in Australia would be like a dream come true for me. Well, marrying a Sheila would top that, because then I could stay forever!
Have fun and hope you get to ride a lot!

OK, I rode with a Dutch bloke this weekend and noticed he was wearing a non-AS helmet. I asked him if he'd ever been checked and he said in 2 years of riding nearly every weekend he's never been checked. He reckons the cops/rangers are more concerned about unregistered bikes than anything else. As long as they see you're wearing a helmet you should be fine.

So sorry if I caused unnecessary concern. If it was me I would probably not be too concerned about whether the helmet is AS or not. I am actually looking at getting myself a 6D helmet (which is not AS approved) simply because it's worth taking the risk to wear the safest helmet even if it's not AS approved.
