More important than the brand is the viscosity. Our KLX's are very cool running engines. The cooling system is very efficient. Those of us with Vapor instrument panels with the inline temp sensor can confirm that. The fan almost never comes on. 20W-50 oil is too heavy for this engine. Stick with a good quality oil in the recommended 10W-40.

I'm curious on your "rattlebox" comment. I don't think the KLX engine is any noisier than other engines with this design. Perhaps you have a loose cam chain or such.

Possible but, I took it in a few times (3 differant shops) all three assured me that is was normal. Note: it is my first bike, so it probably just is normal engine noise, but thats why we post threads to get some extra input and its been a great help. Thanks

I finally put in the Krieger manual cam chain tensioner over the weekend. Rattle gone. It's really worth the minor investment and Mark is great with customer service. Can't recommend it enough.

Good audio on that vid EMS. I'll bet a nickel that the OP's sound is the not too infrequent cam chain rattle that many of us are familiar with. JRock, my cam chain was worn out at 10K because of a wimpy tensioner. Unfortunately this isn't a rare issue.
