Getting irritated, maybe bored
So... my KLX is starting to get on my nerves now.
My issues:
1.) My lady likes to ride along with me on around town jaunts, that's less than pleasant for both of us. This is to the point where she's talking about a possible scooter for herself.
2.) Getting sick of constant wind blasts to the chest, especially on windy days.
3.) Really wish I didnt have to rev the snot out of the thing to keep a decent pace.
4.) The biggest offender, I'm sick and tired of gassing up every 5 minutes (okay, that's an exaggeration)
Anyone have any recommendations on how to fix some of these without dumping a great deal of cash? (Getting rid of the lady is not an acceptable one either)

Adding a 13 tooth front sprocket will help, as will letting it breath a little better from the stock muffler. (You can take a hole saw to it with good results. Search or post on this forum. Others have done it.)

#1...Man, I'd hate ride double on any 250cc dual sport bike. I don't even know why they put passenger pegs on them. I throw mine in the extra parts box to drop some weight. Neither the suspension nor the engine is really designed to carry that much extra weight.
#2...Get a Goldwing.
#3...It's a 250 dual sport. It will have to be revved to some degree even with mods. However, pipe, gearing, airbox, and jetting mods will wake the bike up to a very noticeable degree.
#4...Aftermarket gas tank...for me the Acerbis.
P.S...when you find a good dirt bike, especially dual sport models, that you don't end up spending some extra money on to make improvements, let us know. Oh...and that would be dual sport bikes that retail new around for $5000...not $6000-$8000. And on the wife...get her own KLX250. If she can ride a scooter, she can ride a KLX250. Scooters can be fun, but those stupidly small wheels are scary IMO.

the only comment i have on the double riding is, i do it every once in a while just because she likes to buzz around town, but does not feel comfortable enough to do it herself.
her only complaint is that she needs some type of backrest. I have the nomadic rack, and supposedly the owner of nomadic was designing i quick release on/off bar/backrest. i haven't heard back from him in 3 months, so i am trying to get something really cheap on ebay that i can experiment with, and weld something together. may just try welding something from scratch, but I am pretty much a hack at welding...

One thing that I do and I'm sure a lot of guys do also is to have like 4 5 gal gas cans at home. That way you can fill it up and not have to go to the station all the time and get gas. The last time I was at a station was like a year ago with the bike.

I bought my bike used, and the previous owner had changed the front sprocket to a 13 tooth. It's good on the trails, but I'm starting to get annoyed at all the changing, and the revs at higher speeds on the road.
I do primarily road riding and I'm thinking about trying out the 14 tooth stock sprocket, just to see if I can make it through an intersection without having to change into 2nd gear almost immediately after take off.

sounds like you need a diffrent bike. i would say the core riders here do offroading or are looking for killer gas mileage w/o buying a 50cc scooter (i almost got a honda ruckus before the klx, still want one).
