Here's a pretty typical, proven upgrade path..

1-Exhaust, jet kit, airbox mod.
2-Skidplate, barkbusters.
3-Suspension revalving.
4-Big bore kit, carb.
5-High capacity Acerbis / IMS gastank.

I'd change all the fluids when you get it, the bike has been sitting for the past 5 years hardly ridden.

get the kawi manuals if you plan on doing work on it..

You got a gem -enjoy it, its a great machine!

You may also need a Krieger manual cam chain adjuster as at about 2K miles most of these engines start to clatter at about 5000 rpm's and this is the fix.

I would replace tires and tubes, too.

Service manual for 2006 KLX250?
Cant seem to find one "manual" online---anybody know ?
or best place to get one?

Thanks to all for your Help!!

Question: Being a little older BUT with many years experience with Bikes, I am at a point of QUIET!. Meaning gone is the days of Xcross louds pipes, etc. [I] just like to ride in peace.
Many say do a jet and pipe job---That's OK BUT is it somewhat quiet or ??????????

Thanks!!

compared to stock any pipe will be louder. not much you can do about it if you want more power.. I guess you could do a big bore and keep the pipe stock. it will be more powerful and not as loud as with an aftermarket pipe. but you'r erobbing yourself of a few HP.

keep it simple, have fun - what the KLX is good at.

You may find one of DavidR's threads where he modified the stock muffler to open up flow, but apparently still keeping a lot of Quiet.

Had to dig it up. My stock bike:

Stock didn't last very long.
Now modified, next to a pretty stock 2007:
