G'day Boyz and Galz!
Just purchased my new 07 KLX 250 and have been following this forum for about two weeks non stop reading every night. What a top bunch of people we have here full of awsome info and great stories. Its great to be among avid owners and enthusiasts, I feel privileged. I just wanted to say hello to everyone from all over and maybe to ask a few questions. The stock snorkel that comes with the bike on the air box, do you have to mod anything if you remove it? I want to try and keep the bike stock for the 1st 20 000kms (sorry its not in miles I'm an Aussie) then I will install the 300 big bore kit thats when I will probably start modifying the **** out of the bike, but for now she stays stock. I ride a hell of alot so I'm guesstimating (my make up word) that I could do 20k in a year. I have changed the oil twice already at 800kms and oil filter. The 1st oil change was like the black lagoon, the 2nd wasnt so bad. I havent been able to stay under 4000rpm and have stuck between 4000 to 6000 rpm with the odd 7000rpm a few times. She still feels tight inside and am looking forward to when the motor finaly breaks in. Im hoping she will be a bit more responsive when that happens. This is my 1st enduro and am loving it, the engine feels strong and although shes not the best on the high-way I can live with that. I go prospecting in tough areas and scoot around town, now thats where she excels. Anyways I look forward to any replies, all the best.
Cheers!

Welcome, 'mate.' You have found a great forum...by far the best I have found for the KLX250. No mod's necessary...just pull the snorkel. I do, however, recommend bumping-up your main jet size at the same time.
Added after the fact: OOPS! I should have mentioned the mid-range will need to be enriched as well by either buying and adjustable needle or shimming the stocker. The adjustable needle is much easier though.

Hi Tremor thanks for the reply! wow that was way quick! could I get away without bumping-upmy main jet size? I'm not taking off the whole cover just removing the snorkel. Or if I were to drill a few holes into the top of the box would that make any difference to the air flow and if I did that would I have to bump the jet size up?
Cheers!

This bike comes from the factory with a really small main jet (#118). For that reason, Kawasaki has really restricted the air intake. That combo is part of what keeps the emissions low. If you open the intake at all without upping the main jet, your chances of getting heat damage go way up,so you won't catch meagreeing to any thoughtsof giving it more air withoutenrichening the mixture.
Getting an adjustable needle is also advisable, because that should be richened as well. I should havementioned that in my initial response sincea lottime is spent in the mid range as well. The Dynojet kit comes withanadjustable needle and all of the main jet sizes you could possibly need.Otherwise you need order the non-california (N1TC) Keihin needle and all of your jetssizes separately.

Hey Shay I saw your post come across on the Blackberry while I'm on vacation here, but I wanted to make sure I said hello and welcome to exactly what you described in your post. I too feel privilaged to have found this site, its nice to see another member so exctited about thier bike. Most of us feel the same way. You and Mav should go riding sometime. I know that's like me riding with someone on the east coast but hey you never know right?Take care, and get some photos up if you can. Later Mate. Oh and if there are any misspelled words in this post I'll fix them when I get home, no google spellcheck at my brother in laws house. I have OCD and I just can't stand it if I spelled anything wrong, but you'll figure that out soon enough.

Welcome aboard...I wish some of my neighbors would get with it and sell the 4-wheelers and get into the dual purpose bikes..lol...I need some riding buddies, too. Great bike..you'll love it..like you said not the best on the open highway, but MAN it loves the trails and dirt.
