I'm not sure what j/b weld product you used, but I put a hole in my stock tank and used there putty based product for gas tanks and it worked great. A day later I had gas in it and it was used most of the summer due to problems with my clarke tank.

it was just the regular stuff with the two tubes you mix together. I really dont know why it would have failed like that...but regardless its run into the inside of the tank and theres no way i'm going to risk having that **** mix with the gas and go through my bike.

I just hope the clarke works well.

Does anyone still use Marine Tex? Do they still make it? I used it on the head of a Honda CB450 25 years ago when the cam chain idler sawed its way through the head, you can drill and tap it. I think you can use it on gas tanks too. One thing to keep in mind, its just as important to have a clean surface as the product you are using.

Hey, Bud.
Sorry your tank box was busted open. My tank came in a similar box with newspaper and shrink wrap, but I didn't mind. The tank was fine. Honestly, could that tank get hurt in shipping short of a fire or being run over by a truck? Recycled newspaper is better than using a billion peanuts as I see it, not to mention easier to clean up.

As for the time to get the tank, I spoke with Clarke a week or so ago. There was a fire in the neighborhood that shut down their electricity. Chris Roley, the guy at Clarke who kept us posted on development of the tank, was out back working in production trying to keep up with all the order backup. I like the personal service and small time shop attitude they've had so far. It isn't hard to swap the tanks out and their tank fits great for a plastic retrofit. No worries here.

Yeah - my tank was fine too - just figured for a $200 piece of plastic, they'd packed it a bit better. Just a pet pev of mine. The shipping time wasnt THAT big of deal to me as I wasnt ina hurry and needing it yesterday - but not telling me "hey, it's going to be 2 weeks before you get it" .... well, that is poor communication. They sent me an email and said your order has been processed - and shipping was 4 day ground service. My fault I didnt follow up - but like I said, I really wasnt in a hurry. My post was more of a FYI to others who may.

I took the afternoon away from painting and installed my new GREEN Clarke tank. I am a very happy person with the way this thing went on - without a hitch as far as the tank was concerned. Me on the otherhand, if something can be fubar'd - let me touch it. The stock fuel lines are not made to be man-handled. Quick fix and all is well. I took pictures, but I'll have to post them later on - gotta get cleaned up as we're going to watch Thrusday Night football - cause our cable doesnt have the channel. sheeshh.

Cool, Bud. Glad you got your tank on. I'd like to see it in green when you get those photos posted up.
