**** I pulled the stock tank off jsut to make removal of the carb easier...there is a mess of wires under the seat...those were the biggest PITA for me..

Gas tank was jsut a few bolts and the hoses...then again I pull engines out of my cars for fun..more or less...lol

That doesnt seem like a fun-filled afternoon to me.
I was expecting more trouble myself, and set aside a rainy afternoon to do the swap. It took about an hour, and was much less trouble than I expected. It would make it easier if you had less gas in your tank, just so you don't have to stand around draining the tank into a bucket, and then finding a way to get that gas back into your tank (not to mention keeping it clean!)

They make a product called sloshing compound. It's used to seal gas tanks. It's like liquid 3m. You pour it in the tank roll it around and it seals. Guys use it on old car tanks. The stuff i have is made by U.S Standard. You can look for the product in a street rod book. The first can I got was at an airport maint. shop. Anyway it seals from the inside and works great.

It's not too bad. The main thing is to unbolt the petcock and just remove that along with the tank(in the 'off' position, of couse)

I ordered directly from Clarke. The tank seems fine. I can take pictures of the box - packing if ya'll want. It's still sitting right where I left it. I still havent made my way back to the garage to install it. Two reasons: I'm still painting rooms in our house (insert profanity) and my KLX has a FULL tank of gas. Thinking I might ride it bit this week and run some of it out. The instructions Clarke sent says the removal of the stock tank is tricky and one should have much patience when attempting it. That doesnt seem like a fun-filled afternoon to me.

Sorry about your woes - but dont get in a hurry when you order that Clarke tank. Just got my Clarke tank today. Took a little longer thanone wouldexpect these days (13 days). Looked like it was packed by a blind person - no offense if you know a blind person - but wrapping the tank in cellophane, tossing it in a box, throwing some wrinkled newspaper on it - then halfway stapling the box shut ... the box was literally open when it arrived.
Hey, Bud.
Sorry your tank box was busted open. My tank came in a similar box with newspaper and shrink wrap, but I didn't mind. The tank was fine. Honestly, could that tank get hurt in shipping short of a fire or being run over by a truck? Recycled newspaper is better than using a billion peanuts as I see it, not to mention easier to clean up.

As for the time to get the tank, I spoke with Clarke a week or so ago. There was a fire in the neighborhood that shut down their electricity. Chris Roley, the guy at Clarke who kept us posted on development of the tank, was out back working in production trying to keep up with all the order backup. I like the personal service and small time shop attitude they've had so far. It isn't hard to swap the tanks out and their tank fits great for a plastic retrofit. No worries here.
