How big is the bag and what is the bolt spacing? No chance of lining it up and attaching it to the rack bars themselves? Even if it meant using some thinner bolts, like #8 or #10s? It would'nt be limiting the rack too much considering the sub frame is only rated for 11 lbs, so I'd say the subframe would give out before the rack would even with 2 extra holes in a couple bars. I take it the Moose bag won't fit where the stock toolbag is or are you keeping both?

I think drilling holes in the rack big enough to bolt the bag onwould weaken it alot...
Here is a link to how Dmar did his... but i cant do it the same way... .

In looking at dmar's, it looks like the mounting holes straddle either side of one of the rack rails. I don't know what they are called, but maybe look at four of those mount's that some folks used to secure their pelican boxes. They essentually wrap around the rack rail and leave a mounting tab to put a bolt through which looks like it would line up with the hole in the moose toolpack. The mounts can be rubberized for a secure fit on the rack. I think Todd (bmwhd) used them on his Pelican install. Might work for yours as well as I don't think there would be much space used up below the rack to interfere with your light.

So there is absolutely no room between your tail light and the rack? I've got a lot of 14 gauge aluminum (just shy of 1/16" thick) and you're welcome to a chunk of it if it will work. The local metal shop requires a $20 order so I ended up with 6 square feet of the stuff. If you gave me a sketch with dimensions I'd cut and drill it for you. Just pay for shipping in a bubble envelope, or I'll see you at the NE ride.

Looking at the other post, what about a U shape with the open end facing the tail light?
