Since you mentioned wheelies, I suppose you're replying to me. Either way, my bike also makes that tapping sound when cold and then between 5-6k rpm. It has become very annoying. Then, I got Krieger's cam chain manual tensioner, which I am installing this coming weekend. Other members have said good things about it and that it took care of the rattle noise. I can't wait to put it on. It should be an easy process.

Oh...and thanx!

once its warm the sound stops...with the oil I was told to use thicker oil in summer because it can handle the temperature better and doesn't degrade as much as the thinner stuff..

Interesting....The reprinted service manual for the 09 kx250s/sf that I purchased from you (IIRC) clearly states on page 2-12, Engine Oil - Standard - SAE 10w-40

It is the viscosity that I use, doesn't mean that it is correct or better or worse, etc.

on page 2-12 of the manual does state SAE 10w-40...and, that is what the motorcycle comes with....but, if you read page 2-52 of the manual under periodic maintenance, it goes into further detail on what is the recommended oil for above 40 degrees celsius...40 celsius is about 104 fahrenheit...desert and inland regions can easily reach far above this...

if i was riding in the summer between el centro, california to yuma, arizona...probably would need to switch to 20w-50 also...experienced temperatures of 115 fahrenheit...i remember when i was a kid...one of the most common injury was little kids falling and getting badly burned by the ground...
