Fuel use observation/issue?

Stock KLX 250S - 80 mpg
My '09 KLX 250 has about 4000 miles on it now. My mileage is pretty steady at about 78 - 82 mpg. I switch to reserve at about 105 miles, then run it to about 140 miles. It usually takes just under 1.8 gallons. My riding is mostly to and from work at speeds 45 mph to 60 mph. I am not heavy on the throttle and mostly shift at about 4000 - 4500 rpm.

120mpg would be great

Last ride went like this. 14.7 miles road at 6,000-6,500 [12 tooth] then took to the forest service roads and went on res at 73 miles. Fueled up at 93 miles and it took 1.8 gal. I have a K&N, full FMF with power bomb and a Bill Blue 35 FCR. I have hit res at less than 50 miles a few times so I have started to do a lot of coasting. And yes Tom Edison's red one coasts faster than my green one.
I think Tom went on res around 100 miles or so.

Nice job on the fuel economy!

Most of my riding is to the trails, then typical harescramble type riding (not easy) and I usually get 130 km before it hits the reserve, but I couldn't tell you how much fuel I have to put in.
While commuting to work last year, 88 km one way, I could make the round trip and get 200 km to a tank without running out.
At your rate, you're getting 5l/100 km, which is about 57 mpg

Just did a 68 mile ride, 20 miles was 70 mph (indicated), the remainder was sand, gravel wash, and single track that often required WOT in 1st gear to climb. Got 52.3 mpg. I'm happy with that!

I use the ODO, not the GPS
You bring up a good point regarding the ODO versus the GPS. I already know (read some of my other posts) that the speedo is off by a consistent 10% on this bike. I'm guessing that since the ODO and the speedo are generally tied together that the ODO is off as well. I will take my GPS and mount it on the bike on my next longer trip and compare the results of the ODO to the results of the GPS and report out.
