Got 205 miles to reserve once. Thats why I went to the trouble of fitting the IMS tank.

I got to 87 (on the trip meter) before I hit reserve. I remember thinking, WTF??? This is a brand new bike, what happend. Then saw 87 and thought, reserve? Already?
Maybe it was not "topped off" with every last drop possible either.

But that was back it the "stock bike" days.

I try to keep it full, I just dont want to be crossing in front of the Concrete Mixing Truck and "hit reserve".

I keep a 2gal in the garage and keep it topped off befroe a ride. When it gets low, I top off the 2gal when I fill the car.

I finally got a chance to run my acerbis tank down to about a half litre left and I got 260 km. I figure I could go another few km before it sputtered to a halt. If I got rid of the pipe and jetting and went back to stock I think I could get 300 km out of a tank.

Default Mileage

Picked up an '06 KLX250S last week, totally stock and very clean, 3300 miles. First tank of gas got me 98 miles to reserve and filled immediately with 1.6 gallons, giving me 61 mpg. Mostly commuting around town and 22 miles on mostly flat dirt. Speedo matches GPS speed pretty good, but haven't checked ODO yet.

One of my first mods will be a larger tank. It looks like Acerbis provides the most volume at the best price with reasonable mods, but a lot on this forum have put on IMS too. I'm interested in knowing opinions of which is preferred, and why.

Cheers!

Is there a chance the warning light is on efi models as they probably don't have a petcock like a carb'd bike does and when it's out of gas it's really out.

I do 100 miles (160km) before I hit the reserve. Then I can run another 40 miles (64km) before the tank is dry.
Filling about 1.25 gallons...that give 112 MPG (2.1 L/100K).
My bike is stock, I do 75% road, 25% trails.

Before my KLX EFI was run in I got around 82 MPG (Imperial Gallons) after 2,000 miles it has risen to around 87 MPG. I should add that I am not shy of using my right hand, so to speak.

1. I have never seen a warning light for low fuel
2. I ride 100% on the road, 45-60 mph to and from work
3. For a cold-start warm-up, I watch the tach. When it is steady at 4000 for 10 seconds, I turn off the choke, shift down to first, and ride away. For warm-start warm-up, usually the choke goes off almost right away.
4. I almost consistently go 100-105 miles before switching to reserve. Then I go another 35 miles on reserve.
5. My mpg is very consistently between 75 mpg and 82 mpg, depending on traffic, wind, temperature, and whether I'm shifting at 3500 or 4500.
